Today 17th September, today is celebrated as Marathwada Mukti Sangram Day. India got independence on August 15, 1947, but Marathwada remained a sovereign state. Earlier, Marathwada was merged with Hyderabad institutions. The princely state of Hyderabad was ruled by Nizam ur Usman Ali Khan Nizam ul Mulk Asafjah. The Nizam had categorically refused to merge Hyderabad State with India. But the people of Hyderabad State were in favor of joining India. Mukti Sangram andolan was started in the entire Hyderabad State under the leadership of Swami Ramanand Tirtha to be freed from the Nizam’s principality and join the Union State of India. The population of Hyderabad State was above one and a half crore at that time. These institutions included Telangana, Marathwada and parts of Karnataka. When the liberation war started, Nizam’s general Qasim Rizvi did a lot of atrocities on the people. On the other side, the freedom struggle under the leadership of Swami Ramanand Tirtha, Govindbhai Shroff, Ravinarayan Reddy, Babasaheb Paranjape was going on at full speed. The Marathwada Liberation War was fought in the villages of Marathwada. Thousands of freedom fighters came forward. Even after the long struggle of the freedom fighters, the Nizam did not surrender, on the contrary, seeing that the injustice and oppression of the people was increasing, on September 13, 1948, the Government of India started a police operation in Hyderabad State. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the Home Minister of India at that time. He was very brave with his brave and accurate decision and justice was given to the people. The main forces entered from Solapur. After the operation started at four in the morning, the Indian forces marched from Tuljapur, Parbhani to Manigarh, Kanergaon within 2 hours. The army that left Chalisgaon captured Daulatabad, Kannada. On September 15, the Indian forces moved forward after crossing Aurangabad. The Nizam’s army did nothing against the Indian forces. Finally on September 17, 1948, Nizam’s army chief General Al Idris surrendered. As the army chief surrendered, the Nizam also surrendered. On September 17, 1948, the state of Hyderabad was freed from the slavery of the Nizam. The Hyderabad Liberation War was a success. The Tricolor hoisted over the Hyderabad State. The people of Marathwada succeeded in fighting against the unjust rule of the Nizam in Hyderabad. Since then today i.e. 17th September is celebrated as Marathwada Mukti Sangram. Tribute to the known and unknown freedom fighters who sacrificed their lives in the Marathwada Liberation War. Happy Marathwada Liberation Day to all Marathwada residents!
