Nagpur : The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) successfully held its 39th Convocation on April 7, 2026, at its Headquarters in New Delhi, where degrees and diplomas were awarded to 3,24,835 learners worldwide.
On the occasion, Prof. Uma Kanjilal, Vice Chancellor, presented the report, while the Hon’ble Vice-President of India, Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan, attended as Chief Guest and delivered the Convocation Address.
The Convocation was conducted simultaneously across 55 Regional Centres, including Nagpur. At IGNOU Regional Centre Nagpur, the ceremony was held at SHALOM Auditorium, Hislop College, Civil Lines, Nagpur.
Dr. Bhimaraya Metri, Director, IIM Nagpur, attended as Guest of Honour and delivered the Regional Convocation Address. He congratulated the learners and highlighted IGNOU’s contributions to societal development, noting the benefits of its programmes for students in Vidarbha and Marathwada. He also observed that India is emerging as a global brand and may surpass a GDP of USD 5 trillion by 2026–27, adding that “a leader is one who thinks the unthinkable, achieves the unachievable, and sees the invisible.”
A total of 1,373 learners received degrees, including participants from the Nagpur and Amravati Central Prison Study Centres. The ceremony also highlighted inspiring achievements, notably 85-year-old Dr. Digambar Alsi completing his M.A. (Development Studies), along with degrees awarded to four Divyang learners.
The programme was broadcast on Gyan Vani FM, telecast on Gyandarshan, and streamed online.
