Mumbai: Former corporator Pravina Morajkar has been accused by the Sambhaji Brigade organization of filing false atrocity cases against more than 11 persons from the Maratha community. This organization disclosed the matter by writing a letter to Uddhav Thackeray. After this, evidence of false atrocity cases filed by Morajkar also surfaced. In particular, the FIR lodged against two Maratha community persons at the Nehru Nagar Police Station in Kurlya has added momentum to the case.
After this incident, the local Maratha community and several Maratha organizations came together and raised banners against Morajkar at prominent places in Kurlya. The Morajkars were declared “anti-Maratha” on this banner. The Maratha community has expressed strong displeasure over Morajkar’s candidature.
The Sambhaji Brigade is in alliance with Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena, but if Morajkar is nominated, the Maratha community will take to the streets against it, the Sambhaji Brigade has warned. Local Maratha Samaj and other Maratha organizations have already shown their opposition by waving banners. However, it has been warned that the agitation against the Morajkars will intensify if the candidature is announced.
The atmosphere in Kurla is tense and Thackeray’s Shiv Sena is likely to have to go on the back foot in this situation. Opposition from Maratha organizations could have a major impact on the upcoming Kurla elections.
